Typhoon Yagi – Latest updates

ASEV Travel would like to inform our customers of the current weather situation in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam, following the passage of Typhoon Yagi, which occurred from September 5 to 9, 2024.

  • North Vietnam (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Mai Chau, Halong Bay): Although water levels in the Red River and its tributaries remain high, the situation is gradually improving. Flood damage is being repaired, and clean-up is progressing. Apart from a few seasonal rains, the storms and violent winds are over. Activities and visits resume as affected areas are cleaned up.
  • Northwest Vietnam (Sapa, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, mountainous regions): Due to flooding and landslides, some roads are hardly passable. We recommend avoiding this region for the time being, until the situation stabilizes.
  • Central and South Vietnam: These regions were not affected by the typhoon. Weather conditions remain normal, with only the usual seasonal rains. No disruption to tourist activities.

Situation in Laos: Typhoon Yagi also affected parts of Laos, particularly the north:

  • Northern Laos (Luang Namtha region): This area remains flooded and travel is advised against for the time being.
  • Luang Prabang: The level of the Mekong has risen, but visits and attractions remain accessible.
  • Vientiane: Similar situation to Luang Prabang. The level of the Mekong is high, so we recommend staying away from its banks.
  • Southern Laos: No problems to report to date.

ASEV Travel is closely monitoring the situation and will inform our customers of any changes.
