Historical Chiang Mai
Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep which is said to house a sacred Buddha relic in its golden stupa. Legend tells of a white elephant carrying the relic and choosing to stop on Doi Suthep mountain to blow its horn three times before dying. A gold-leafed chedi was built where it fell, creating a revered pilgrimage site. Back in Chiang Mai's old quarter, visit Wat Phra Singh, a tranquil temple, and Wat Chedi Luang, built by King Saen Muang Ma to hold his father’s ashes, partially destroyed by an earthquake.
